A shortcut is a short key mapped to a site URL. Every shortcut on the grid is available the moment you install Celerity — no configuration needed. You can launch a site with a single key, or search within it by adding a space and your query.

The shortcut grid

When you open a new tab you see the shortcut grid: a responsive tile layout showing each shortcut’s key and site name. Click any tile to open that site directly. On narrow screens the grid shows two columns; on wider screens it expands to four. A + button fills any empty space at the end of the grid. Clicking it opens Settings so you can add a new shortcut immediately.

Launching a site from the keyboard

  1. Open a new tab — the shortcut grid appears.
  2. Type the shortcut key (e.g. g).
  3. Press Enter.
Celerity opens that site without any mouse interaction.

Searching within a site

Every shortcut that has a searchTemplate supports direct site search. The template contains a {} placeholder that Celerity replaces with your URL-encoded query.
  1. Open a new tab.
  2. Type the shortcut key, then a space, then your query (e.g. y lofi music).
  3. Press Enter.
Celerity constructs the search URL and navigates there immediately.
WhatsApp (w) does not have a searchTemplate, so typing w some query opens the WhatsApp Web homepage rather than running a search.

How search templates work

Each shortcut’s search path is a relative string appended to the site’s base URL after {} is replaced with your query. For example, the YouTube shortcut uses:
Your query is percent-encoded before substitution, so spaces, special characters, and non-ASCII text are all handled correctly.

Opening shortcut settings with the keyboard

Press Alt++ from any new tab page to open the Settings panel with focus already placed in the Key field of the “add new shortcut” row. This lets you add a shortcut entirely from the keyboard without reaching for the mouse.
You can add your own shortcuts with custom keys, URLs, and search templates. See Managing Shortcuts to get started.
